Miss Universe 2009, the 58th Miss Universe pageant will be held at the Atlantis on Paradise Island in Nassau, Bahamas on August 23rd, 2009. The pageant takes the contestants also to the Abaco and Grand Bahama.

The final presentation show, rehearsal, dress rehearsal and the grand final will take place at the Imperial Ballroom at Atlantis.

on

Tuesday 25 August 2009 at the Ruby Swiss Restaurant. Enclosed are her remarks:

Before Cable Bahamas there was only ZNS TV 13; the incorporation of Cable

Bahamas Ltd in Sept 1994 and the placement of a $30m public share offering

paved the way to make a wide variety of TV programming available to both

homes and businesses.

The Government of the Bahamas granted a 15 year franchise and exclusive

license to Cable Bahamas to maintain and operate a catv service throughout

the Bahamas with the exception of Freeport…

The Committee for the Privatization of BTC Provides Update on Privatization

Nassau, Bahamas – The Committee for the Privatization of The Bahamas Telecommunications Company Ltd. (‘BTC’) announced today that there has been strong interest for the proposed sale of a 51% stake in BTC.

Interested parties were invited to pre-qualify for the transaction and to provide information evidencing their suitability in accordance with criteria established by the Bahamas Government. Information submitted will be reviewed over the next several weeks, and the Government will invite those who satisfy the required criteria to participate in the Due Diligence Phase of the privatization process. Due diligence is scheduled to begin in September…

"Drained" Oceans Reveal Epic Landscapes – National Geographic Documentary features Bahama Bank

The seas off the Bahamas can seem like a swimming pool, but strip away the ocean (illustration at top), and the edges of the islands’ shallow Great Bahama Bank–where the light blue begins to turn dark in satellite images of the Caribbean–are revealed to be steep cliffs rising some 2 miles (3.2 kilometers) above a vast plain.

By comparison, Yosemite National Park’s nearly 5,000-foot-tall (1,520-meter) Half Dome (bottom) is a molehill.

For much of the seafloor, accurate computer images like the one at top are only now becoming possible.  Unmanned subs, mapping software, and other technology are finally improving to the point where we can map the oceans to the same level…

Hooked to Sharks

David Cooke was 15 when he first went nose to nose with a shark. Was he terrified? More like exhilarated.

The thrilling experience came in his first shark dive off the coast of Honduras with his father, Jeff Cooke.

“And ever since then I’ve been hooked to sharks,’’ said the 19-year-old Stratford resident.

“I’m a pretty big adrenaline junkie. That grabbed me. I just went home and just started reading about them.’’ He was moved to learn about the plight of sharks with 100 million being killed each year for their fins.
